My Blogs

I've kept a couple of blogs on line the past few years. In early 2007, I toured the country with the wonderful singer, Steve March Torme -- son of the late, great Mel Torme. The blog I kept is filled with anecdotes, pictures and nationwide local color. All of it took place during eight grueling weeks, riding a bus with a 10-piece band of outstanding musicians. I think you'll enjoy it.
Jeff's Torme Tour

Another blog is A Composer's Journey -- meant to be a description of the trials of trying to be a composer of music in my present scattered living situation. It's a brief slice of the life of a typical, multi-tasking, working professional musician, educator and composer. (If you see oxymorons in all of that, they probably are there!) It a bit out of date, but I promise I'll get back to it soon.

Upton Bass

I had been looking around for a "new sound" even though I had been playing my vintage Juzek since 1975. A couple of my students had been using basses made in Mystic/Stonington, CT, by young Gary Upton, and I was very impressed with their sound. So I decided to try one out for myself and loved the punchy, wooden sound and responsiveness right from the start! Plus, it's made right here in Connecticut. I have enjoyed playing my Upton Hawkes Hybrid on all my gigs since August, 2007. See my What's New page for a picture and some details.
